On Saturday, September 10th, NC Open Gym partnered with local Crossfitter and coach Brooke Lyon to host an event and raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).  Members of the community came together to complete the workout 'Upl;ft", a partner CrossFit workout designed to have both partners depend on each other to complete the work.

The workout consisted of 10 Power Cleans, 1,800 meter Run (together), 273 Double-Unders, 82 Lateral Burpees over Bar, 55 Deadlifts (225/155 lb), and 130 Wall Ball Shots (20/14 lb).

A total of 44 athletes participated in the event, and over $700 has been raised (so far) on behalf of the AFSP.

Brooke spearheaded the event because of her own battles with mental health. She wants others to know they do not have to struggle alone. "Thank you to each and every one of you who showed up, to throw down, sweat, and support one another while being a vital part of this movement to end the stigma of mental health. The more we talk about how OK it is to struggle, the more normalized it becomes, the less lost and afraid someone will be and the likelihood they reach out to someone for HELP is increased 10 fold."

Many have asked how they can contribute, so we have decided to keep the donation link open through the month of September.  https://strongertogether.betterworld.org/donate
